The Canada - France Redshift Survey XII : Nature of emission - line field galaxy population up to z = 0 . 3

چکیده
We present a spectroscopic study of the 138 field galaxies to a redshift z = 0.3 from the I-selected Canada-France Redshift Survey. 117 (85%) spectra exhibit at least Hα in emission, the remaining 21 (15%) are purely absorption-line spectra. We focus our analysis on spectra with Hα and Hβ in emission, accounting for about half of this lowz sample, which we classify using emission-line ratio diagrams. Using photoionization models, we determine the extreme boundaries of H II galaxies in these diagnostic diagrams, and demonstrate that the emission-line ratios of a significant fraction of galaxies require harder photoionization sources than massive O stars. We find that about 17% of the field galaxies have emission-line ratios consistent with active galaxies, e.g. Seyfert 2 or LINERs. After correcting for stellar absorption under the Balmer lines, we conclude that the fraction of such galaxies is at least 8% of the field galaxy population at z ≤ 0.3.

Internal Kinematics of Blue CFRS Galaxies at z ∼ 0.6 1
We present the results of a study of the internal kinematics of luminous starforming galaxies in the 0 < z < 0.8 range, with the aim of investigating the nature of the blue galaxies which cause the largest changes in the luminosity function at z ≥ 0.5. New kinematic data are analysed for a sample of 24 galaxies from the Canada-France Redshift Survey, most of them with rest-frame (U −V )AB ≤ 1.1...

This paper analyzes the spatial clustering of galaxies in the Canada-France Redshift Survey (CFRS). We have used the projected two-point correlation function, w(rp), to investigate the spatial distribution of the 591 galaxies with secure redshifts between 0 ≤ z ≤ 1.3 in the five CFRS fields. The slope of the two-point correlation function for the sample as a whole is γ = 1.64 ± 0.05, very simil...
متن کاملThe Luminosity Function of Field Galaxies in the CNOC1 Redshift Survey
We have computed the luminosity function for a sample of 389 eld galaxies from the Canadian Network for Observational Cosmology cluster redshift survey (CNOC1), over the redshift range z = 0:2 0:6. We nd Schechter parameters M r 5 log h = 20:8 0:4 and = 1:3 0:2 in rest-frame Gunn r, and M BAB 5 log h = 19:6 0:3 and = 0:9 0:2 in rest-frame BAB. We have also split our sample at the color of a red...

Low-mass starbursting galaxies have been proposed as the explanation of the excess of faint galaxies observed at intermediate redshifts. If this hypothesis is correct, then intermediate redshift galaxies should rotate more slowly than nearby galaxies with the same rest-frame luminosity. We present the results of a survey of the internal kinematics of intermediate redshift (z = 0.25−0.45) field ...
متن کاملThe Taurus Tunable Filter Field Galaxy Survey: Sample Selection and Narrowband Number-counts
Recent evidence suggests a falling volume-averaged star-formation rate (SFR) over z < ∼ 1. It is not clear, however, the extent to which the selection of such samples influences the measurement of this quantity. Using the Taurus Tunable Filter (TTF) we have obtained an emission-line sample of faint star-forming galaxies over comparable lookback times: the TTF Field Galaxy Survey. By selecting t...
